Greece is an easygoing, unhurried country,
home to some of the most hospitable and welcoming people in the
world. There are neither severe customs to obey nor any
particular protocols to follow but, like anywhere, a little
courtesy will go a long way.
You’ll find total strangers will nod
a hello to you on a country lane and the Greek ladies, in
particular, will not think twice before scrunching your
children’s hair or giving their cheek an affectionate
pinch.
Sunbathing topless is usual, except on the
small beaches located within the town, and there is a casual
dress code everywhere. However, please ensure that you are
respectfully dressed when entering a church – after all,
you wouldn’t dream of walking around Canterbury or
Westminster Abbey in a bikini, would you?
You cannot overestimate how appreciated it
will be if you try to speak a few words of Greek. Everyone
seems to speak such competent English that it is easy to
overlook the pleasure of attempting to communicate in a little
bit of the native tongue. Try some of these...
